On – Page Optimization : Do’s and Dont’s
Wednesday, 02. 16. 2011 – Category: On-Page Optimization, SEO Process
On-page optimization covers modifying keyword frequency in the URL, Title, Body Text, Headings and Hypertext links. Removing or trimming down redundant HTML codes is also included in on-page optimization. It may also involve restructuring the site so as to make it have a better focused paged content and as well as to make it better linked.
Most search engines are less focus now on looking onto on-page factors since it gives a lot of opportunities for SEO experts to take advantage of. Basically, what you can see on a web-page is less likely to get manipulated since they have to make sense to readers or visitors of the site. Nonetheless, doorway pages having clever use of style sheet and redirections make a difference as it allow different content to feed to search engines and end users.
Tips on On Page Optimization
Ideally, each page should have between two and four keywords which are directly associated with the contents. If there is a need for more keywords, then you may opt to split the content into separate pages. Your Title tag must contain the keywords without stop words but they should be arranged to make sense. Your URL (Uniform Resource Locator) must also include keywords that are separated by hyphens without being too long. It should only be about 128 characters.
Since most search-engines focus more on the higher part of the page then you should make sure that the Head section of your page is optimized meaning it should be properly structured using Heading tags with relevant keywords. Keep in mind that search engines only index a certain amount of text in HTML tags so avoid using too many keywords that may get in the way.
Meta tags are also included in on-page optimization. Though these do not influence page ranking, it is also valuable as these text will be use by some search engines as a description so you must see to it that your meta tag succinctly describe the contents.
When writing the copy of the page. Keep in mind that you are writing for people not search engines so do not focus a lot in keyword density but also make sure that you include keywords infused in different phrases and orders and also create anchor text. Do not include too many links either keep it less than 50. Theme related pages must be at similar level in the site hierarchy and get linked through the menu structure and site map.
